Ellen Degeneres’ Marshmallow Game.

March 28, 2008 · 1 Comment

During her “Big in Japan” week, Ellen adopted this Japanese marshmallow game as a rotating contest on her show. It’s hilarious — grown women in kimonos desperately trying to bite the precarious marshmallow. Watch the vid below.

Walcott by Vampire Weekend

March 27, 2008 · 1 Comment

If you have any sort of affinity toward Massachusetts, you should check out Vampire Weekend. I was totally unaware that at least four of their songs are about this state!

I really enjoy “Walcott,” listen here.

My parents gave me that very same Casio for my 10th birthday.

Calico Cat Cafe: Come to Cuddle?

March 26, 2008 · No Comments

Located in the Kichijoji district of western Tokyo, Calico Cafe allows visitors to cuddle with cats for 800 Yen/hour (about $US 8.00). The cafe materialized due to the lack of space and increasingly strict housing requirements for residents of the city, making it extremely difficult to own a pet. To satiate the want for kitties, the cafe offers 19 in-house cats for use by customers. Because of the extreme popularity, reservations are recommended for holidays and weekends. MEOW!

Trilobis 65 Floating home.

March 26, 2008 · 2 Comments

One day our society could run out of building room, the land so overpopulated that the only place to turn for expansion is the water. It’s alarming to think about, but Naval designer Giancarlo Zema’s Trilobis 65 — a floating habitat sufficient for six people — could very well be the home of the future. Each floating home consists of four stories (two above water, two submersed), all accessible by a central spiral staircase. Check out the Web site for more specific details.

Tangerine Promotions: Shot glasses, coffee mugs, and Lauren Conrad’s collection?

March 24, 2008 · No Comments

Last week I wrote this splendiforous post about L.A. Fashion week. As a nice little postscript, I thought I’d  share with you, my readers, a juicy bit of info that I came across today in this article on NYmag.com. It’s about Lauren Conrad’s clothing line, oh, and why its destined to fail (like there was ever any doubt). Among the innocuous indicators was this gem: Her clothing is produced by Tangerine Promotions, a company that specializes in promo products, i.e., those hideous plastic shot glasses given away during happy hour at the neighborhood watering hole — and by neighborhood watering hole I mean generic meathead bars that cater to the mainstream, 20-something set.

Apparently MTV does a lot of business with Tangerine Promotions and when asked if it was willing to make little Lauren’s riches to riches dreams come true, it agreed, granting Conrad full creative control over the merchandise. Too bad. Lauren Conrad for Tangerine Promotions sounds kinda catchy.

Oh my god, is that girl going to jump? Are those human legs coming out of that trash bag? What the hell? Is that man putting his head through a wall? Nope, look again, it’s a street installation by artist Mark Jenkins. Humorous, clever, thought-provoking, brilliant, all adjectives to describe Jenkins’ work that’s popping up and confusing passers-by around the globe. Check out the Web site for more examples of Jenkins’ work.
